"The time for common talk is over. Bulgaria is lagging behind in preparing for the energy transformation that comes with the Green Deal.” This was stated in a comment to the Bulgarian National Radio on the topic of EU green policies by energy specialist Slavcho Neykov. He stressed that the EC has a clear expectation to Bulgaria that our country will present its specific vision of what will happen to the coal regions.

Slavcho Neykov pointed out that in the preparation of the expected transformation the local communities are ahead of the state power. "Continuation of the operation of coal-fired power plants and mines in its current form - this can certainly not remain so. The horizon is very short in this direction. The more important factor is to find an option in which people do not lose their jobs," Slavcho Neykov called.

Among the opportunities for retaining the specialists in the Maritza East complex is the transition to the production of electricity from gas. The Stara Zagora business is working on specific calculations for the price and time needed for such a transformation, said Slavcho Neykov.
