The Electricity System Operator (ESO) will submit to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission its proposals for reducing the price of electricity on the free energy market.

This is expected to lower the balancing market shortfall price by more than 30%.

The electricity costs of the business are formed not only by the electricity that the industry buys from the free market, but also by the costs they make to balance the electricity system.

It is in this direction that the idea of changing the rules for electricity trading is supported by the Energy System Operator. They envisage instead of constantly creating balancing groups with coordinators, in which electricity producers and consumers will participate, this should be done with direct contracts with ESO. Relevant calculations and simulations have been made.

"We performed several simulations for previous months, for the months of August and September. If the associations between the coordinators of the balancing groups drop out, this will have a positive effect on the price of electricity shortage," ESO Executive Director Angelin Tsachev was quoted as saying by BNT.

The marginal price in August was BGN 318. If the mergers had disappeared then, the shortage price would have been BGN 228. For September, the marginal price was BGN 344, in case the mergers had disappeared then, the price would have been BGN 231 to all end users ", added Tsachev.

In the coming days, ESO will submit its opinion to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission
