ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP produced as much electricity as half of Bulgarian homes consume in the first quarter of 2022.

TPP ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 provided over 13% of the total electricity produced in the country in the first three months of 2022. This amount is enough to cover the average consumption of more than 1,400,000 households - half of the homes in Bulgaria.

ContourGlobal Maritza East 3 fully meets the new, stricter EU environmental requirements, which came into force in August 2021. ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP is expected to play a key role in ensuring the stability of Bulgaria's electricity system during the transition to a low-carbon economy. The power plants in the Maritsa East complex are extremely important for the country's energy security and independence. This understanding is also reflected in the approved Recovery and Sustainability Plan.

ContourGlobal Maritza East 3 TPP has been certified for years according to two international standards - ISO 14001: 2015, related to environmental protection and ISO 45001: 2018 (OHSAS), which concerns health and safety at work, and has already reported on 15 million man-hours of work without accidents.

ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 owns and operates the first lignite-fired thermal power plant in Southeast Europe, which operates in full compliance with the highest European standards for occupational safety and environmental protection. The plant produces an average of 10% of electricity in Bulgaria, using local energy sources and thus contributes to ensuring energy security and independence of the country. More than BGN 1.4 billion have been invested in ensuring the reliable operation of the plant and in measures for environmental protection and labor safety. The shareholders are the international energy company ContourGlobal (73%) and the National Electricity Company (27%).
