Bulgaria for the third time with the highest monthly growth of industrial production in the EU for 2022
Industrial production in our country increased by 16.5%, in the EU-27 by 3.5% and by 2.5% in the Eurozone in August on an annual basis
Bulgaria overtook Lithuania and Denmark and came out on top in terms of industrial production growth in the European Union for August, for the third time since the beginning of 2022, according to the seasonally adjusted data of the European statistical service Eurostat. Before that, Bulgaria was the leader in May and July 2022, it is clear from a reference in "Eurostat".
In the last summer month of the year, Bulgaria registered an increase of 16.5 percent on an annual basis, compared to August 2021, and although it is the highest in the EU, this is a slowdown compared to July, when our country registered an increase of 18 percent. In August, the increase in industrial production on an annual basis in the EU was 3.5 percent, and in the Eurozone the increase was 3.5 percent.
Annual comparisons
In the euro area in August 2022, compared to August 2021, the production of capital goods increased by 8.2%, of durable consumer goods by 7.0% and of non-durable consumer goods by 0.4%, while the production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.5% and energy by 2.9%.
In the EU, production of capital goods grew by 8.9%, consumer durables by 4.2%, non-durable consumer goods by 3.2% and intermediate goods by 0.1%, while energy production fell by 0.5%.
Among the member states for which there are data, the largest annual increases were registered as we have already indicated in Bulgaria (+16.5%), followed by Lithuania (+14.4%) and Denmark (+14.1%). The biggest decreases were observed in Belgium (-10.3%), Luxembourg (-2.5%) and Slovakia (-2.0%).
Monthly comparisons
Industrial production among the countries of the European Union rose by 1.1 percent in August on a monthly basis, while the indicator in the Eurozone rose by 1.5 percent. At the same time, a 0.7 percent slowdown in growth was registered in Bulgaria, while in July, on a monthly basis, the indicator for our country increased by 1.1 percent.
In July, compared to a month earlier, industrial production fell in both the EU and the eurozone, by 1.5 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively, according to revised Eurostat data.
In the euro area in August 2022, compared to July 2022, the production of capital goods increased by 2.8%, of durable consumer goods by 0.9% and of non-durable consumer goods by 0.7%, while the production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.5% and energy by 2.1%.
In the EU, production of investment goods increased by 2.0%, non-durable consumer goods by 0.9% and consumer durables by 0.3%, while production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.4% and energy by 2.0%.
Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were recorded in Ireland (+16.6%), Estonia (+5.0%) and Denmark (+4.3%). The biggest decreases were observed in Sweden (-7.0%), Belgium (-6.1%) and the Netherlands (-1.5%).
