We are looking for opportunities to purchase or lease new rolling stock at short notice and have also sent inquiries to several companies from Germany. This was said by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to our country H.E. Irene Plank.

"Our ambition is to urgently launch the long-awaited modernization of railway transport, which has only been talked about for a decade, but there has been no significant progress," stated Gvozdeikov. He presented the steps that have been taken so far and emphasized that it is important what the results of the market research will be, for which responses are still awaited from several companies.

Ambassador Irene Plank emphasized that Germany is ready to assist Bulgaria in the process of modernizing railway transport.

The two also discussed the transfer of the management of the Rosenets port terminal to the state after the termination of the concession on August 15, 2023. Minister Gvozdeikov explained that an agreement with Lukoil will be concluded soon and no interruption of the terminal's work process is expected.

Regarding the corridors of solidarity, Minister Gvozdeikov pointed out that given the situation in the Black Sea, work is being done on an alternative route passing through Bulgaria for the delivery of Ukrainian grain. "The land corridor Ukraine - Romania - Bulgaria - Alexandroupolis was discussed at a meeting between the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Greece, and the Greek side supported this initiative. "Bulgaria has created the capacity to pass 5,000 tons of Ukrainian grain in 24 hours," the Minister of Transport specified.

Ambassador Planck confirmed that Germany supports Bulgaria's accession to Schengen. Minister Gvozdeikov emphasized that cargo traffic along the borders, as well as the wave of migrants, will be overcome much more easily after our acceptance into Schengen.
