Gas transmission operators along the Vertical Corridor presented their projects during an information day
In the Greek capital Athens, representatives of the gas transmission operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova presented their projects for the implementation of the Vertical Gas Corridor to interested parties. On the Bulgarian side, the executive director of Bulgartransgaz EAD Kiril Ravnachki and the company's experts participated in the event.
"In dialogue with the market participants, we will achieve our common goals of ensuring access to diverse and reliable sources of natural gas along a secure and efficient route, namely the Vertical Gas Corridor," said the executive director of Bulgartransgaz EAD Kiril Ravnachki. "Thanks to the well-developed gas transmission infrastructure in the region, and in Bulgaria in particular, local markets are increasingly attractive for new suppliers," he emphasized during his opening speech during the event. In his words, supplies of liquefied natural gas to the European Union reach almost 50% of imports, and the tendency is for the share to increase. "After the expiration of the agreement on the transfer of natural gas from Russia through Ukraine in early 2025, the infrastructure of the Vertical Gas Corridor will be vital for the supply of liquefied natural gas from South to North," Ravnachki also said.
We remind you that on May 2 Bulgartransgaz EAD started the binding phase of the procedure for additional capacity, together with the operators of Greece - DESFA S.A., Romania - Transgaz S.A., as well as with "ICGB" AD. "Following the positive results with which the non-binding phase of the demand assessment for capacity increase between Greece and Bulgaria and Bulgaria and Romania ended, we are now hoping for interest also within the binding phase that is currently underway," stressed Ravnachki.
The operators of gas transmission systems emphasized the maximum use of the possibilities of the existing infrastructure in the implementation of the Vertical Corridor. The targeted expansion investments being planned are critical to strengthening infrastructure and ensuring a reliable, affordable and diverse supply of natural gas for European consumers. During the presentation of the projects, it also became clear that the main goal in developing the projects is to preserve the economic attractiveness of the route.
