Tsvetelina Penkova: It’s High Time We Talk About Affordable Energy

The energy transformation of Europe cannot be sustainable if it leads to losses. At present, European companies and industries are placed at a disadvantage compared to other global leaders due to high energy prices. This was stated by Bulgarian MEP Tsvetelina Penkova during a debate in the European Parliament.
In her speech, she emphasized that the differences in energy prices across EU member states can vary by up to 10 times between some regions. This directly affects economic growth, employment, and social stability. Therefore, it is high time to talk about affordable energy.
Europe needs a flexible transmission network. We must reduce losses and find the right balance between nuclear and green energy. "We have the resources, we have the critical raw materials, and most importantly — we have European companies that can take on this task. We must support our own production," the Bulgarian representative urged. According to her, energy security is not a national issue, but a regional one, requiring joint efforts among all member states.
