On April 20, the companies from Maritza East Complex - Mini Maritza East EAD, TPP Maritza East 2 EAD, TPP ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3, TPP AES Galabovo, in partnership with the Rector of the University of Mining and Geology and the Rector of the Technical University in Sofia, have submitted a project proposal to the Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, the Minister of Energy, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Education and Science and to the trade union leaders of Podkrepa and CITUB to guarantee long-term electricity production coal in the context of the European Green Deal. This was reported by the Stara Zagora News newspaper.

The proposal is related to the strategic project Sustainable Energy Transition through modern technologies for capture, disposal and utilization of carbon dioxide and green energy component from the power plants in the complex "Maritza East". The authors of the project are adamant that its implementation will provide an opportunity to continue the activities of TPPs from Maritza East, as well as other thermal power plants in Bulgaria, fulfilling the goals for reducing carbon dioxide emissions set by side of the European Commission in the Green Deal Pact. On the other hand, the submitters of the project proposal are adamant that the investments in this project will contribute to the sustainable development of the entire Stara Zagora region, to the energy sector of the country, and that the role of Maritza East complex as a main pillar of energy will be preserved.
