The Minister of Energy Andrey Zhivkov held a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria HE Dr. Hussein Husseinov. The two discussed the traditionally good relations between their countries in various public spheres and stressed the importance of mutual partnership in energy, which plays an extremely important role for all sectors. The Deputy Minister of Energy Miroslav Damyanov also took part in the meeting.

I am convinced that our business contacts will continue to develop steadily. Bulgaria has a contract with Azerbaijan for the supply of 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year, which is a significant factor in the diversification of blue fuel supplies. However, due to the delay in the construction of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnection, we cannot receive the entire amount, stressed Minister Zhivkov. He assured his guest that the caretaker government is making every effort to speed up the construction of the pipeline. We are ready to expand and intensify cooperation of common interest between institutions and companies in our countries in order to achieve the goals of security and competitiveness in the energy sector, said Minister Zhivkov.

N.Pr. Dr. Hussein Husseinov informed that if we receive the entire agreed amount of Azeri gas for our country, 30-40% of its needs for raw materials per year would be met. He expressed readiness to expand the partnership in other sectors, as well as to resume the work of the bilateral commission for economic cooperation in the near future, proposing to host Baku.

In our person you have a correct partner and I am convinced that the bilateral dialogue will continue even more successfully, summed up Minister Zhivkov.
