Bulgaria’s government allocates additional funding for students, young families and hospitals

Bulgaria’s government is allocating BGN 16 million to municipalities for renovation and modernization of mathematics and natural science classrooms in 160 schools in the country. The funds are under a national program aimed at developing innovations in natural and digital sciences, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov explained on Facebook on August 13.

Up to BGN 100 million will be allocated for the improvement of the material base in the students’ boarding houses and for scholarships.

Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister: For years we have been showing with our actions that education is a long-term and irrevocable priority for the government. This is what we do today. Because it is education and science that are in the main arsenal of means to deal with all the challenges of today.

Some 42 new all-terrain ambulances with life-saving equipment will be provided for the Medical Emergency Aid System

BGN 2.4 million will be allocated for state-of-the-art multifunctional equipment for the traumatology of Pirogov emergency hospital, which will facilitate the work of doctors and give them the opportunity for faster and even better quality diagnostics.

“Mother's Home” hospital which is specialised in childbirth, obstetrics and genecology will also receives a support of BGN 2 million for the robotic system "Da Vinci" for bloodless surgical interventions.

The cabinet will also allocate BGN 8.66 million for the strengthening of the infectious diseases units in the military hospitals in Sofia and Sliven, as well as for the purchase of important medical equipment.

Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister: With all these actions we are upgrading the healthcare system. These are important decisions for the benefit of all Bulgarian citizens.

Support will also be given to families with children up to 14 years of age by providing them with the right to monthly targeted assistance during a state of emergency or epidemic situation.

Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister: The aid will amount to one minimum wage. Parents who cannot work remotely from home and do not have the opportunity for paid annual leave will be able to rely on it. For the implementation of the new measure for dealing with the consequences of COVID-19 we provide BGN 20 million per month. In times of unprecedented circumstances, like the coronavirus pandemic, this is a good solution for working parents.
