Monitoring Group of European Parliament Committee to Discuss Situation in Bulgaria

The Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group at the European Parliament Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) will meet on Friday in camera to discuss the situation in Bulgaria with Bulgarian authorities, civil society representatives and EU experts, the European Parliament Press Service said on Thursday.

Deputy Prosecutor General Krassimira Filipova, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, Deputy Justice Minister Dessislava Ahladova, representatives of the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission are expected to take part in the discussion. Furthermore, MEPs will hear from Bulgarian civil society representatives and a journalist.

The meeting will take place from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. (10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Bulgarian time), partly remotely.

The LIBE Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group focuses on threats to democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights, as well as the fight against corruption within the EU, across all Member States. It is chaired by Dutch MEP Sophia in' t Veld of the Renew Europe Group.
