An Austrian company has started its work on the design of a new solar park with a capacity of 200 megawatts on an area of 1,400 decares in the lands of the Chirpan villages of Zlatna Livada, Tselina and Zetyovo. The plots are municipal property and are of the lowest possible category, used for measures, the regional site Stara Zagora News reports.

Enery Development Trakia Solar EOOD plans to invest 10 million euros only for the substation, as well as to build a 5-kilometer route. According to preliminary estimates, the end users of electricity in the villages will pay for electricity within 11 stotinki per kilowatt-hour, and for the future industrial zone in Chirpan it will be 12 stotinki per 1 kWh. The plots will not be sold, the installation will be done through a ceded building right, commented Mayor Ivaylo Kracholov. The same company plans to build another solar park on the territory of the neighboring municipality of Dimitrovgrad, where it will use a plot of 1,650 decares.

The investor is part of the Austrian group Enery, which acquired the largest operating solar power plant in Bulgaria: FTPP Karadjalovo (60.4 MW). A key investor in Enery is RP Global, an independent electricity producer with more than 30 years of experience in the field of renewable energy. The expected lower prices of electricity from the solar park have caused investment intentions for terrains in Chirpan, said Kracholov, who expressed hope that the Ministry of Defense will finally decide on the area of 300 decares of the long-closed 96th Tank Regiment.
