Bulgaria’s Industrial Production incriesed by 0.8 percent in January 2021 as compared to December 2020

In January 2021 the Industrial Production Index, seasonally adjusted, increased by 0.8 % as compared to December 2020. In January 2021 the working day adjusted4 Industrial Production Index fell by 3.4% in comparison with the same month of 2020, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute on Wednesday.

Monthly changes

In January 2021 as compared to December 2020, the seasonally adjusted Industrial Production Index rose in manufacturing by 2.1% and in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 1.2%, while in the mining and quarrying industry the industrial production decreased by 13.1%.

The most significant increase in the manufacturing was seen in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 19.6%, in the manufacture of other transport equipment by 18.5%, in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment by 13.4% and in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 10.4%. Major decrease was seen in the manufacturing of tobacco products - by 20.3%, in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers by 12.4% and in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 3.7%.

Annual changes

On annual basis in January 2021 Industrial Production Index calculated from working day adjusted data fell in the mining and quarrying industry by 17.8%, in the manufacturing by 2.7% and in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 1.4%.

In the manufacturing, more considerable decrease compared to the same month of the previous year was registered in the other manufacturing by 46.1%, in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 28.5%, in the manufacture of leather and related products by 27.5%, in manufacture of beverages by 26.5% and in the manufacture of tobacco products by 24.8%. Major increase was seen in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 34.0%, in the manufacture of electrical equipment by 18.1%, in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products by 13.4% and in the manufacture of furniture by 8.3%.
