The biggest fears of the people are related to the inability to pay the bills, given that we are in an energy crisis. This was stated by the national ombudsman Diana Kovacheva to BNT. Kovacheva cites Eurostat data, according to which 51% of Bulgarians find it difficult to pay their heating bills.

"Nowhere in the Energy Efficiency Act is there a definition of who are energy poor. That is, if we start from vulnerable people, we must realize that we do not know how wide this circle of people is. The truth is that the state must help everyone, as business measures have already been taken, "the ombudsman said.

We remind you that currently there is no increase in the prices of electricity or water for people. The price of electricity for households is regulated by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission and a possible change may take place only after the new year.

According to her, the state should take a stand and help the people. Retirees also cannot pay their bills because their pensions are really low. More than 10,000 retirees have asked the ombudsman to worry about what they will do during the winter months, Kovacheva said. According to her, it is high time to take legislative measures to limit the collection companies and companies that provide quick loans. Where is the justice in paying for water? A new Law on Water and Sewerage Services must be adopted, the ombudsman insisted.
