TPP ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3 produced almost 12% of the electricity in the country for the period January-September 2022.
The plant continues to contribute to the provision of reliable and affordable energy for the country by using entirely local raw materials
TPP "ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3" provided 11.8% of the total electricity produced in the country for the period January 1 - September 30, 2022. The amount produced is enough to cover the average consumption for 9 months of almost 1,300,000 Bulgarian households.
"As one of the largest production facilities in Bulgaria, which operates entirely with local resources, our power plant is a key component of the country's energy system. We strive to be in our place and help in these complicated times for the energy sector, the economy and the entire Bulgarian society," said Alexander Zhelev, chief engineer of ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP.
TPP " ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3" fully meets the requirements of European legislation for environmental protection and safety. To date, BGN 1.4 billion has been invested in the plant for environmental improvements, modernization, safe operation and healthy working conditions. Thanks to large-scale rehabilitation and modernization, the ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP is the first power plant in the South-Eastern Europe region that meets the strictest European standards for environmental protection and safety. For 12 years, it has successfully defended its certifications according to the international standards for environmental management and health and safety at work, ISO 14000:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 (previously - OHSAS 18001:2007).
At the end of August 2022, the ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP successfully completed the annual planned maintenance of its capacities, which ensured the efficient and safe operation of the plant during the winter season, when loads are traditionally greater due to low temperatures and high electricity consumption.
ConturGlobal Maritsa East 3 owns and operates the first lignite-fired thermal power plant in Southeast Europe, which operates in full compliance with the highest European standards for labor safety and environmental protection. The plant produces on average 10% of the electricity in Bulgaria using local energy sources and thus contributes to guaranteeing the country's energy security and independence. Over BGN 1.4 billion has been invested to ensure the plant's reliable operation and measures to protect the environment and work safety. The shareholders are the international energy company ContourGlobal (73%) and the National Electric Company (27%).
