Bulgaria will use US technical expertise to build its road infrastructure

The United States of America is our key and strategic partner, both in the field of defense and in the field of economic relations. The establishment in 2020 of the Bulgaria-USA Strategic Dialogue has a special role in this.

This was said by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Andrey Tsekov, at a meeting with the American ambassador to our country, H.E. Kenneth Merten.

The two discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of investment projects, public works, regional development and policies in the field of infrastructure in Bulgaria.

The minister presented to the American ambassador highlights from the policies of the Ministry of National Development and Regional Development in the field of road infrastructure. He informed about the major infrastructure projects that are being implemented and on which work must continue at an accelerated pace, because they are an important prerequisite for the development of our economy and will contribute to the expansion of infrastructure connections with our neighboring countries - the "Hemus" highways, " Struma", "Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo - Makasa" and "Europe".

The construction of new bridges on the Danube River is also of key importance for the region, it became clear during the conversation.

Also important for the transport connectivity of our country are the construction of the "Dupnitsa - Gueshevo" highway - along the west-east axis, as well as the "Black Sea" highway - in the north-south direction.

"The delay of all these projects over the years is rather a political problem and a problem with the planning of previous cabinets," the minister emphasized and added that the completion of these objects implies intensive work, for which the Bulgarian experts could draw experience from American specialists in the field of infrastructure.

"For the implementation of the government's investment program, we will rely on the assistance of the United States to identify mechanisms through which we can take advantage of the American technical capacity," the regional minister also stated.

His Excellency Kenneth Merten congratulated the minister on the ambitious goals he has set for himself and expressed the willingness of the two countries to look for ways of partnership in a number of areas.

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Naydenov and the head of the minister's political office Nikolay Saikov took part in the meeting.
