The renewable energy sector (RES) in Bulgaria continues to be mainly dominated by local investors, who retain control over about 70 percent of the companies. This is shown by the annual analysis of the RES industry, prepared by business and news agency SeeNext and law firm "Gugushev and Partners", the agency reported, quoted by BTA.

The analysis covers 480 domestic companies engaged in the operation, maintenance, construction, engineering or project development of renewable energy power plants, as well as the production of batteries, motors, turbines and other equipment for RES facilities.

According to the report, the dynamism in the number of newly created companies points to a decline - in 2022, two new RES companies were created.

The analysis states that Italy and Germany continue to be the leading foreign investors in the sector in our country. The top 10 foreign investors in RES are complemented by companies from the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Hungary, Austria, Hungary, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Turkey, from 2022 and Japan.

In the case of newly installed capacities, photovoltaics are showing a remarkable growth, according to the report. According to him, the total capacity of solar parks in Bulgaria at the end of 2022 jumps by 38.5 percent compared to the previous year, while there are almost no changes in other energy sources.

In the field of electrical energy storage systems, Bulgaria has made some important changes to the regulatory framework over the last year in line with the ambitions expressed in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. It is expected that this topic will continue to be the focus of further changes in the Energy Act, the report notes.
