Deputy Minister Nikolov spoke in Paris with leading world producers in nuclear energy
The talks took place within the framework of the World Nuclear Exhibition in the French capital
Deputy Minister of Energy Nikolay Nikolov participated in the World Nuclear Exhibition, which takes place every two years in Paris and brings together the leading forces in the field of nuclear energy. The diversification of nuclear fuel for the Kozloduy NPP, the future projects for the development of new nuclear facilities in Bulgaria, the opportunities for training and practice of Bulgarian nuclear energy students in a real environment with the world's leading producers - these were among the main topics of the talks of Mr. Nikolov in the French capital.
The supply of fresh nuclear fuel for unit 5 of the Kozloduy NPP was discussed with the president of Westinghouse Patrick Fragman. Deputy Minister Nikolov informed his interlocutor about the progress regarding our country's intention to build new nuclear facilities at the Kozloduy NPP site.
Bulgaria's energy policy was the central topic of Deputy Minister Nikolov's conversation with EDF CEO Luc Remon. The company is willing to participate in Bulgarian projects for the development of both nuclear energy and renewable sources and energy storage systems, he confirmed to the Bulgarian Deputy Minister. Within the framework of the conversation, an agreement was reached on the exchange of data and experience between the nuclear operators of the two countries.
Framatom is interested in participating in the future tenders for the supply of equipment outside the nuclear island for units 7 and 8, which are to be built at the Kozloduy NPP site. This became clear in the conversation of Nikolay Nikolov with the CEO of the company, Bernard Fontana. The French company is ready to conclude contracts with Bulgarian universities that have nuclear specialties, for the training of experts in its eponymous academy.
In the French capital, Deputy Minister Nikolov also participated in the annual meeting of the countries of the nuclear alliance, where the central topic of the discussion was the Declaration on tripling the share of nuclear energy. Participants in the Declaration commit to take action at national level to ensure that their nuclear power plants are operated responsibly and in accordance with the highest standards of safety, sustainability and security. Bulgaria joined the Declaration with a decision of the Council of Ministers last week. It is about to be officially presented within the framework of CROP-28 in Dubai.
