The Municipality of Plovdiv saved over 1000 tons of CO2 emissions in 2023, using central heating from EVN District Heating
The municipality of Plovdiv saved over 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions in 2023 by using central heating from EVN District Heating. This became clear on February 8, when representatives of the management of EVN Bulgaria held a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of Plovdiv, Kostadin Dimitrov.
On this occasion, Alexander Sipek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN Bulgaria, presented Mr. Dimitrov with a special green certificate - a testimony of the significant contribution of the Plovdiv Municipality to the quality of the air and the environment of the city. The reduction of harmful carbon dioxide emissions by 1,073 tons for the 2022/23 heating season is the result of the consumption in municipal facilities of 2,675 MWh of thermal energy, produced in an efficient way by EVN District Heating.
The meeting was also attended by Kalina Trifonova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of EVN Bulgaria and Dominic Yarmer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN District Heating. Among the topics discussed were those related to the development of the city's energy infrastructure. The highlight was the heat transmission network, which is the second largest in the country, which makes the cooperation between the Municipality of Plovdiv and EVN District Heating of strategic importance, especially in terms of air quality.
In this regard, questions were discussed about the good coordination between the projects of the municipality and EVN regarding the excavation activities in order to save their duration, including the quality of the restoration activities. Energy efficiency and emergency situations with unclear ownership of sites were also discussed, along with municipal plans for RES projects and eased legal procedures regarding energy supply. Both sides testified their willingness to continue the successful mutual cooperation regarding the energy and ecological development of the city.
