Minister Malinov discussed bilateral energy cooperation with the ambassadors of France and Great Britain

The Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov and H.E. Joel Meyer, Ambassador of France to Bulgaria, discussed the possibilities for joint actions to achieve decarbonization of the European economy. The main topic during the conversation was bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy as an emission-free resource, which is the basis for achieving the European Union's goals for zero carbon emissions. "The Bulgarian side relies on the experience of the French experts for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel from Framatom for the 6th block of the Kozloduy NPP." Their timely implementation in full volume is of key importance in the process of diversification of supplies," emphasized Minister Malinov. Nuclear energy occupies a central place in the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the French Republic and is of strategic importance for European energy security.

"The greening of the economy on a global scale is an irreversible process, for its realization Bulgaria will rely on the experience of Great Britain as well," said Energy Minister Malinov during a meeting with the British ambassador to Bulgaria, Rob Dixon. The two discussed the development of wind energy, which is a major renewable source in the UK. "Bulgaria has a developed and regionally connected electricity transmission network. The wide application of the so-called "smart grids" will increase the efficiency of the system in our country," added Malinov.

During the meetings, the desire of companies from France and Great Britain to use Bulgaria's well-developed gas transmission network for supplies of liquefied natural gas was expressed. According to Minister Malinov, the share of liquefied gas in the energy mix will continue to grow in the coming years. "With the realization of the initiative of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova for the Vertical Gas Corridor, capacity will be provided to transfer the necessary quantities of liquefied natural gas from reliable sources for the region of South-Eastern Europe", he added he.
