Minister Nikolov opened an investment for BGN 800 million in the mining plant near Pirdop and Zlatitsa
The German company "Aurubis" is expanding its production in our country and building two new solar parks
The Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Petko Nikolov, made a symbolic groundbreaking for the expansion of production and the construction of new ecological facilities at the "Aurubis" plant. This is the largest German investment in Bulgaria, CEO of Aurubis Group Roland Harings said during the ceremony.
The German company has launched a new investment program worth BGN 800 million in its oil extraction plant near Pirdop and Zlatitsa over the next four years. Part of the major projects in it are the expansion of the cathode copper refinery and the construction of two new photovoltaic parks.
"This is an important day for Bulgaria and for Bulgarian-German relations," said Minister Nikolov during the official ceremony. He emphasized that the government focuses precisely on investments such as this, which generate greater added value in Bulgarian industry and production.
According to him, German companies are among the biggest investors in our country. About 30% of the 100 largest investors in Bulgaria are precisely German companies, and "Aurubis" is the largest of them.
With the company's new investment, construction has begun on the expansion of the cathode copper refinery. The capacity will be increased from 230,000 tons to 340,000 tons per year. Refined copper is a key material for the energy transition, connectivity and digitalization and is Bulgaria's main export.
The construction of two new photovoltaic parks, "Auribis-2" and "Auribis-3", also began. With the addition of a fourth next year, the green power capacity will reach 41 MWp.
The program is part of the company's long-term strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and ensure sustainable production of materials key to the European economy.
The ceremony was also attended by Sonia Miklai, general manager of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Economy, Tim Kurt, executive director of "Aurubis Bulgaria" and president of GBTIK, the mayors of Pirdop and Zlatitsa municipalities.
