Two contracts, which will initiate the implementation of the Vertical Gas Corridor concept, will be signed in the presence of Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and Acting Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov. This was announced by the press service of the cabinet. The event will take place today in the Council of Ministers.

With the signing of the documents, the design and construction of part of the necessary gas transmission infrastructure begins - a loop from Kulata to Kresna and from Rupcha to Vetrino, which will ensure an increase in the capacity for natural gas transmission in the direction from Greece to Bulgaria and from Bulgaria to Romania.

The vertical corridor is a strategic initiative of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova, aimed at improving security and diversifying the sources and routes for transferring additional quantities of natural gas from the south to the north.

The contracts will be signed between the gas transmission operator "Bulgartransgaz" EAD and the designated contractors - consortia between Bulgarian and American companies.

The event will be attended by the US Deputy Ambassador Andria Brulet-Rodriguez, the Ambassadors of Hungary - Miklos Boros, of Ukraine - Olesya Ilashchuk, of Moldova - Anatol Chebuk and of Greece - Alexios Liberopoulos, as well as the Deputy Ambassador of Slovakia Mr. n Daniel Orszag, according to the government information service.

By building new transmission capabilities of the Bulgarian gas transmission network, the process of creating a completely new project for Europe, connecting gas transmission operators from the Mediterranean to the Baltic Sea, has practically started. Such a project will also help to improve the energy security of Moldova and Ukraine, as well as to create new opportunities for the transfer of blue fuel. The Vertical Gas Corridor initiative belongs to the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova and is supported by the EU.

The priority implementation of these projects will contribute to increasing competition in the sector and achieving better conditions for all users, not only in our country, but also in the entire region.
