An American agency will finance the ESO feasibility study for an East-West energy corridor. This was announced by the Council of Ministers today. In the presence of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov, US Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten and other officials in the Council of Ministers, a contract will be signed between the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and the Electricity System Operator (ESO EAD) for free financing of the feasibility study for the construction of an East-West energy corridor.

The project initiated by ESO EAD is planned to connect the electricity transmission networks of Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro, with the possibility of reaching Italy. Improving cross-border transmission capacity and the possibility of real-time exchange of energy produced from renewable sources in the region is key to the efficient utilization of green energy and the fulfillment of the goals related to decarbonization and green transformation.

The contract for free financing worth nearly 1.5 million dollars will be signed by the executive directors of ESO EAD and the US Trade and Development Agency, Angelin Tsachev and Eno T. Ebong.
