Free parking at Sofia Airport to end on January 9, Kiss & Ride zone introduced
SOF Connect, the operator of Sofia Airport, is introducing a new traffic management system in front of Terminal 2 from January 9, 2025. The system is the result of the introduction of best European practices and aims to improve the organization of traffic, safety and quality of service for passengers and visitors. The system will also prevent improper parking and congestion, while offering flexible and convenient solutions for stay and parking.
“SOF Connect is actively working to provide travelers with a safer, more convenient and better organized passenger experience at Terminal 2. The introduction of the controlled access system is an important step in the transformation of Sofia Airport into a modern European airport. It is based on the highest European standards and successful models of airports such as Munich, Amsterdam and Rome, which have proven the effectiveness of such a traffic organization,” said Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect.
From January 9, 2025, every traveler who wants to reach Terminal 2 by car will pass through barrier systems that register the license plates of the cars.
“Kiss & Ride” zone
The new system will also introduce the “Kiss & Ride” concept – a zone specifically designed for a short free stay, in which drivers can drop off or pick up passengers without blocking traffic. In the “Kiss & Ride” zone, drivers will have 10 minutes of free stay in front of the terminal building to drop off or pick up passengers. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes.
For cars of people with disabilities, an extended free stay of up to 30 minutes is provided.
Tourist transfer buses during this winter season will be entitled to 30 minutes of free parking in the Kiss & Ride zone and in Parking P8, which is located nearby, until the end of March 2025. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes.
More information about the Kiss & Ride zone can be found on the Sofia Airport website and in the specially created information video.
Public transport will have unlimited free access to Terminal 2 at Sofia Airport.
Parking in the Kiss & Ride zone or on the streets around Terminal 2 is not allowed. For all passengers and visitors, Sofia Airport offers three parking lots with different price categories, suitable for longer stays.
