The huge success for Bulgaria in attracting one of the six new artificial intelligence factories of the European Union to its territory was the leading topic of the meeting of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov with the member of the European Court of Auditors Iliana Ivanova. During their conversation at the Council of Ministers, Ms. Ivanova specially congratulated the Bulgarian government on the serious recognition that our country receives in the field of innovation and artificial intelligence. Bulgaria won a project with funding of 90 million euros in competition with some of the most developed countries, thanks to the joint work and results achieved between Sofia Tech Park and the Institute for Computer Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (INSAIT).

The challenges facing the European budget were also in the focus of Prime Minister Zhelyazkov’s meeting with Ms. Ivanova. Bulgaria will make every effort to significantly improve its absorption levels in both the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism and the Structural Funds, so that our country has a strong negotiating position in the negotiation of the next multiannual financial framework, the Prime Minister said. Prime Minister Zhelyazkov also emphasized the government’s targeted efforts for fiscal stability and rapid access of citizens and businesses to European funding.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Member of the European Court of Auditors Iliana Ivanova also discussed the delayed implementation of the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism in Bulgaria. Ms. Ivanova shared her impressions of the audit work of the European Court of Auditors, which lead to the conclusion that for the successful implementation of the recovery and resilience plans, including timely receipt of payments under them, their quality negotiation and preparation is of great importance. At the same time, Ivanova recalled the good example of effective absorption of European funds that Bulgaria set last year, ranking among the few EU countries that implemented the European budget for agriculture without errors.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Member of the European Court of Auditors Iliana Ivanova united around the understanding that the dynamics and instability in geopolitical terms require more than ever speed, adequacy and accurate analysis of each measure in order to achieve a balance between the implementation of long-term goals and the well-being of citizens.
