At the end of October it became known that the RIEW allowed TPP Bobov Dol to join the gas distribution network of Bulgaria. A few days ago, the procedures for the next stage of the investment intention for the production of energy from natural gas were launched.

"The second stage is an assessment by the responsible institutions of the need to assess the impact of the project on the environment. Competent persons must assess whether the intention to introduce a gas system, gas supply to new burners and installation of 4 gas piston engines requires verification of the impact on air quality parameters. "Said the executive director of TPP Bobov Dol Eng. Lubomir Spasov.

Eng. Spasov explained that the expected benefits of the introduction of natural gas is the reduction of emissions. The company announced that they will stop using fuel oil when starting the boilers and replace it with natural gas. According to experts, the removal of fuel oil is expected to generate nearly 10,000 cubic meters less sulfur dioxide per year, as well as almost 630,000 cubic meters less carbon dioxide.

Eng. Spasov said that the first stage of the project is the construction of a gas section of 1400 m, which will connect the company with the gas transmission network of the country. The construction of a gas distribution point for the supply of natural gas burners follows. The installation will be located on a site with an area of nearly 600 sq.m.

"A new gas installation will be built in the boiler rooms of each of the three steam generators. There will be a total of 12 burners. There will be a separate alarm gas analyzer station next to the burners, "said еng. Spasov.

The third stage of the project will include the installation of the new engines on a site of 1500 sq.m.

"The goal of the project is to produce cleaner energy. Gas engines have exceptional electrical efficiency. Exhaust and engine cooling water have many applications. Among them are low-pressure steam and central heating, "said Eng. Spasov.

According to the plans, in 2022 99,000 cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied to the TPP, in 2023 - 165,000 cubic meters, and in 2024 as many as 168,000 cubic meters natural gas.

In the last year, the management of TPP Bobov Dol has stated serious intentions to improve the impact on the environment.
